Android 15 brings many significant AI key features to expand the glory of Android with a new AI Theft Protection feature. Where OpenAI started smashing major AI features to make the world advanced. Google is making smart AI tools and features for Android devices. The Google AI team is working on expanding AI features in its Android 15.

Android 15 brings a major feature based on an AI algorithm called “theft protection.” However, theft protection features like Find My Device, detention lock, offline device lock, and remote lock are also seen on Android 10 and above in some flagship devices. But in Android 15, these features are enhanced with AI and perform much better to detect any threads and secure the system.

Google mentioned the theft protection feature and private space feature are available on foldable, tablets, and more devices. Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Nothing, and more companies show the “Theft Protection” feature uses AI.

Here are the brief details to understand the feature of AI Theft Protection:

Common “Theft Detection Feature” that will be available on OxygenOS 15, ColorOS 15, Nothing OS 3.0, HyperOS 2.0, One UI 7.0, and many UI based on Android 15

Google Play Protect Live Threat Detection:

This feature mainly monitors application behavior to protect unwanted bloatware and apply strict privacy. Enable the feature by analyzing app activities for any suspicious patterns or unsafe behavior. If a harmful or suspicious thread is found, relevant information about the activity is securely reached to Google Play Protect.

Process the verification of application risk. Play Protect takes action immediately and blocks or removes the application and ensures the safety of the device and data security. It keeps data secure and folders of the devices. It continuously screens apps and addresses security concerns in real-time.

Screen Lock Theft Protection:

Auto Lock Screen: If the device detects some unusual or suspicious activity, such as sudden, fast movements, which detects a gyroscope, the device automatically locks. And as soon as possible, the abnormal activity is found. The system suppresses further detections for the next 30 minutes so that alarms are not triggered by mistake. This feature is off by default.

Remote Lock: You can lock your device remotely from the FindMyDevice portal without needing to enter your Google account password. You can lock your device using just your phone number, and this process can be done up to two times a day.

Offline Lock: The phone can automatically lock under certain specific conditions, such as going offline like turning on Airplane Mode, removing the SIM card, or entering the wrong password multiple times. This feature can also be activated up to two times a day.

Identification Required from Phone Owner:

Post-Steal Sensitive Operation Protection: If the device is stolen in the unlocked state and the attacker tries to perform some sensitive action like turning off Find Phone, deleting ESIM, modifying the USB connection, increasing screen timeout, or turning off theft protection, then it will be necessary to verify the phone owner with biometrics or lock screen password. There is no limit on the number of times this verification can be triggered.

Android 15 Update

Apart from this, the Android 15 beta phase has been live since the October 2024 month, and a stable update will be seen from 29th October by the launch of Xiaomi 15 series. This series will launch in China with HyperOS 2.0 based on Android 15.

This time Chinese tech giants mobile manufacturer’s companies like OnePlus, Xiaomi, and Vivo have mainly taken responsibility to introduce Andorid 15 from this October 2024 month. Beside it, Google Pixel devices are also participating in the rollout of Andorid 15 OS from mid-October 2025.
